Leicester City striker Matty Fryatt took a veiled swipe at the Bluebirds this week after speculating the dismal run-in last year, that did not come back to haunt us this season, might manifest itself in the play-offs. The striker has 11 goals in the league this season, and has recently returned from a broken jaw injury which saw him miss almost 3 months worth of action.
Fryatt was speaking to the Leicester Mercury about his return to action, and his belief that the Foxes could achieve back-to-back promotions after enjoying an impressive season and occupied a play-off place for the vast majority of the campaign. However, he also found time to question the Bluebirds` mentality.
Fryatt told the Leicester Mercury:
“There is nothing to be scared of. We have finished on level points with Cardiff. They are known for fading away in the end, so they might be a bit nervous in terms of that.”
“It will be a close game, as I am sure the other semi-final will be, but I have every faith that we can do it and get to the final.”
Personally, I can`t see last season`s calamities having an impact. There is a steel and determination to the Bluebirds this time around, which allowed us to secure play-off status before the end of the season this time around. The determination within the squad has been noticeable, and the likes of Ledley, McPhail and Hudson have been itching to get back from their respective long-term injuries.
With Steve Howard ruled out with suspension, Fryatt looks likely to be on the bench for this game as he is still lacking match sharpness. On loan pair Martin Waghorn (Sunderland) and James Vaughan (Everton) will form a mobile partnership in attack and look for space in behind the Bluebirds defence. With these players, plus the likes of Bothroyd, Chopra, Whittingham and Burke on show – there could well be goals in these ties so if Fryatt`s prediction of a close game is correct – we`re set to have an exciting and extremely nerve-wracking 180 minutes of football over the next week.
