Leeds Utd Duo Set To Miss Bluebirds Reunion

Two former Cardiff City players look set to miss the chance to face their former club after picking up injuries with their new club Leeds United, and set to miss the upcoming Championship clash on Monday.

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel (foot) is almost certain to miss out, while recently departed Ross McCormack (hamstring) is a major doubt.

Schemichel was a loan signing for the Bluebirds, while he was a Manchester City player. He was imposing and dominant and looked an assured bet for City at a time when our goalkeeping department was in disarray. However, he returned to his parent club before moving on to Notts County and then Leeds. His ommission will be a blow for the Whites, but they can call on experienced former Blackburn Rovers man Jason Brown, or the promising young keeper Ben Alnwick.

McCormack would have had one eye on this game when signing for Leeds just a couple of months ago. His position at Cardiff City had become untenable after a lack of opportunities saw him lose confidence and match fitness. He made few appearances last season, and often in an unfamiliar wide role leaving his frustrated and a shadow of the lively and direct striker that saw him top scorer on joining the Bluebirds. The arrival of Craig Bellamy was a final nail in the coffin and he was allowed to join rivals Leeds United.

Rosco’s hamstring injury is not serious, and has healed well after missing the past few weeks of action. He is near a return, but as is common with hamstring injuries – he is unlikely to risk aggrevating the problem by playing before fully fit and following a week or two of full training.

McCormack bears no ill feeling towards the Bluebirds, but rightly believes he was overlooked and did not get the chances he deserved. A fully fit and confident McCormack is a real asset in this division, but with Chopra, Bothroyd and co. he was sidelined and lost his way.

The vast majority of Cardiff City fans would wish him well, but hope that he is unavailable to play against us on Monday – the stage would be set for him to score and show Dave Jones what he missed out on over the past two years.
