Welsh international defender Declan John has said he and his colleagues will be doing their all to ensure we remain in the Premier League over the coming games.

The Merthyr Tydfillian made his Premiership debut on the opening day of the season against West Ham, and has gone on to figure 17 appearances for the first team since then – 12 starts in the league.

Of course he made his maiden FA and League Cup debuts last season against Northampton and Macclesfield respectively, but he’s certainly started to make a name for himself this season in pretty difficult circumstances so much is expected from the youngster in the coming years and he continues to develop.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of this weekends tough encounter against Everton, John said everyone had been boosted by the victory over Fulham, but that can only be the start of our resurgence now we need to take that kind of performance and level of finishing into each game from here, starting with the opposition this weekend as if results go for us, we could move ourselves out of the bottom three and that really would be a confidence shot for everyone.

‘We’d obviously been a few games without a win prior to the weekend, so to beat Fulham in front of our home supporters was brilliant. I think a few have said it was probably our biggest game of the season, so to get a win just extends the gap a little bit. Hopefully a few more wins between now and the end of the campaign will keep us out of the relegation zone. The win has picked us all up and we’ve a great belief. We’re looking to Everton now on Saturday and get another good result, it’s about momentum at this stage of the season.’

Having been with the club through his school days, he waxed lyrical about what it meant to finally achieve our aim of promotion to the top flight last season and he said it was one of the happiest moments of his life so far, and you get the impression that pulling off a great escape moment this time round would equally match that as the Premier League is where he believes we should be and it’s certainly where we want to stay.

Another solid performance with the bonus of a good result would certainly keep those belief levels high and we will need them over the coming weeks.
