Graham Replaces Campbell At Sunderland

Cardiff City moved to sign former Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell from Sunderland during the transfer window and Martin O’Neill managed to land his top target as a replacement by swooping for Swansea City’s Danny Graham – a former player for Malkay Mackay and a reported
former target for the Bluebirds.

Whilst players like Andy Legg and Jason Bowen have been popular with both sets of fans, moving between CCFC and SCFC has never been a recommended switch. Jay Bothroyd laughed off talk of a move previously, but there did appear a slight chance of us making a move for Graham. That never materialised, but the transfers are clearly linked and both men are quality goalscorers who will be looking forward to fresh challenges.

You have to feel for Danny Graham who was instrumental in Swansea’s recent success but has been frustrated by a lack of opportunities this season. The emergence of Michu has played a role, but Graham seemed to deserve more action and has chipped in well despite a paucity of chances. However, the move worked well for Cardiff City with Mackay managing to land his top transfer target.

There is no doubt Campbell can impress in the Premiership. There are questions to be answered first but for me Cardiff City have been granted a fantastic deal with a bargain deal for Campbell – while Sunderland were required to stump up over £5m for Graham. Hopefully, that will be proven over the course of this season.
