Cardiff City’s committed centre-half Anthony Gerrard has warned Chelsea ahead of the Bluebirds trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday and is unafraid of getting stuck in – something the City fans have noticed about our Liverpudlian stopper.

Gerrard has been a virtual ever-present at the heart of the Cardiff City defence, playing alongside Mark Hudson and more recently Gabor Gyepes. He is a typical no nonsense defender, who loves committing to biog tackles and towering headers. However, he is also a good footballer and is comfortable with his distribution from the back. You can regularly hear Gerrard on the field of play, he is certainly unafraid of letting others know his thoughts and his choice language is often comical when combined with the thick Scouse accent.

Gerrard told the SW Echo:

“Chelsea players may be stars, but they can still get hurt and I won`t be adverse to be giving one or two of them a kick. We have to get in their faces and I`ll do whatever it takes to get that upper hand.”

“If you pussyfoot around a team like Chelsea they will murder you – and that is something I don`t want to happen. They are the best team left in the cup but we`ll be ready.”

We are yet to see a less than 100% committed performance from Gerrard, and what he lacks in technique and Championship experience has so far been hidden beneath his gutsy and aggressive displays.

Chelsea’s superstars have been warned of Gerrard’s intentions, and should certainly believe them, but then again – the referee also now knows what to expect….!
