False Promises For Under-Strength Cardiff City

Cardiff City have been ‘working hard` for what seems like months now but have failed to add to the squad since the captures of Hudson, Quinn and Gerrard around a month ago. It`s a long way from the eight new faces reportedly wanted, and a constant frustration and disappointment for fans. There has been barely any speculation of note, a rare occurrence at the Bluebirds where ‘in the know` supporters regularly share their various rumours of potential signings.

Additionally, a loan signing from a Premiership club has long been mooted – but nothing has materialised save for a trial for the out of form and released Vincent Pericard from Stoke City. Hardly inspiring stuff. Further chagrin is afforded by the departure of Paul Parry to Preston North End – consequently WEAKENING our already fragile midfield – a virtually unthinkable situation given last season`s vulnerability in that area.

The truth is, the club are barely helping the situation and despite the impressive start to this season, injuries have already taken their toll on a wafer-thin squad and we find ourselves struggling to put a team out. The bench looks set to be stock with teenagers with virtually no Championship experience while we have no recognised cover for Chopra and Bothroyd.

Cardiff City Chairman Peter Ridsdale has long stated we work under strict budget constraints, but Parry has departed for a fee of £300k and still nothing! What`s worse is comments made by Ridders such as (to WalesOnline):

“We have been busy trying checking out which players could be available and are working to bring in a player or two before the Plymouth match”

“If that isn`t possible we would certainly hope to add to our squad before Sunday`s home match against Bristol City.”

Comments such as those are seldom forgotten by Cardiff City fans, and in this case rightly so. Anybody can see we desperately need re-enforcements and if that isn`t possible – for whatever reason then we need to be told. False hope and misleading promises aren`t helpful to anybody.

We haven`t brought anybody in, there is still time but don`t hold your breath. Without additional players, we cannot hope to compete in the top six but until then our talented bunch of players need full and unconditional support from the supporters.
