Ex-Cardiff City Players In The Goals

Cardiff City ground out a 1-0 win away to Nottingham Forest this weekend with Ross McCormack – one of the finds of the season and hopefully the answwer to our scoring problems – finding the net.

However it was some ex-Cardiff City player and slightly less regular scorers that also picked up important goals this weekend:

Steven Thompson scored his first Burnley goal in their 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic. Thommo joined the Clarets earlier this season after failing to hit the net frequently enough with the Bluebirds. This won’t go down as one of his best efforts, the Scotsman probably didnt see the long shot that caught his shin and found the net!

Glenn Loovens was an even less likely name to appear on the scoresheet. Glenn left Ninian Park 1 game into the new season to start afresh with Celtic in the SPL. After scoring 3 goals in 100 Cardiff City appearances, he netted his second in 7 games for Celtic proving for sure that the SPL is lower quality than the Championship….

Leo Fortune-West remains a cult figure amongst Cardiff City fans and is still kneeing goals for fun. He scored for Alfreton Town in their FA Cup win over Retford United – I’m sure it was a cracker!

It’s difficult to mention ex-Cardiff strikers in the goals without a special mention for a club in League 2. Bradford City are doing well this season, thanke largely to their striking duo. Bluebirds record signing Peter Thorne leads the league scoring charts with 10 already with Michael Boulding also contributing 5.
