Cardiff City manager Dave Jones looks set to stay after Fulham ended their managerless spell by appointing former Wales boss Mark Hughes.

Fulham missed out on top target Martin Jol, who opted to remain at Ajax. At that point, Cardiff City boss Dave Jones was favourite with all the bookmakers, and it seemed a strong possibility he would depart. Whilst not all Bluebirds fans are big supporters of Jones, he is established, experienced and has done well. Further, it would be hugely unsettling to lose the manager amid all the off field turmoil.

However, Jones spoke out to deny any contact with Fulham and other contenders emerged including Sven Goran Eriksson. However, Mark Hughes has now taken up the position at Craven Cottage and will look to build on the great work by Roy Hodgson. Fulham had struggled to emulate the successes of a previous Welsh rein, when Chris Coleman effectively guided them to top half finishes.
