Derby Defeat Irrelevant For Bluebirds Momentum

Cardiff City lost the dead rubber match against Derby County but fans needn`t worry about the end of our unbeaten run or any lack of confidence associated with this loss – the team that played bore no resemblence to our starting XI and was therefore representative of Cardiff City in name rather than our strongest team.

Of the beaten XI, Chris Burke looks certain to start in the all important play-offs while Hudson, Quinn and McCormack harbour realistic hopes of a call-up. However, the likes of Enckelman, Taiwo, Wildig and Feeney will be hoping for a place amongst the substitutes at best.

Of those, McCormack and Hudson stood out and Rosco was a little unlucky not to score after creating some decent chances for himself. Hudson too played himself into contention with a powerful display at the back although he and Gyepes were caught out badly for Derby`s 1st goal when McEveley was left unmarked to head in a Commons cross.

The second was a poor goal and mistake by Cardiff City keeper Peter Enckelman who looked suspect throughout and let a tame Martin effort slip under his body. Chris Burke struggled to find his menacing best but was devoid of service for long periods, based on previous form and the lack of a genuine wing replacement means he will start against Leicester City. The erratic Kelvin Etuhu will provide cover while McCormack may also be selected in a wide midfield role.

While it was a disappointment for the travelling fans that we saw a shadow / reserve side lose, the party is yet to come (despite the fancy dress!) and there won`t be a single complaint if we can overcome Leicester and book a place in the Championship play-off final.
