Cardiff City rejected the chance to sign adopted Welshman Eastwood in the summer when the former Wolves man offered a ‘come and get me’ plea to Dave Jones. However, Cardiff City insisted they could do better and an on/off move to Coventry City eventually went through.
Opinions were split on Eastwood, but few fans will now believe we have actually done any better with Jay Bothroyd yet to fire, and Eddie Johnson failing miserably thus far.
Eastwood himself has yet to produce his best for the Sky Blues but a goal against Barnsley early in the season has now been followed by an equaliser on Saturday against Blackpool as he looks to find his scoring touch. At Southend, he was a proven finisher while he did well at Wolves though with few chances.
Eastwood has also done well for Wales, often alone up-front and the script seems written for him to deliver a message to Dave Jones after his very public rejection and dismissal of Eastwood’s talents.
It will be up to the City defence to keep Eastwood away from the box, make him push deeper to receive the ball. Purse and Johnson are likely to be the central defenders and must cut out the mistakes that occurred against Birmingham.
Of the other Sky Blues: Jay Tabb enjoys scoring against the Bluebirds, Leon Best is a former target while Elliot Ward is a dominant defender with good pedigree.
