Cardiff City, Swansea City and Wrexham (should they avoid relegation) have leant of an FAW plan to allow the three league clubs to field teams in the Welsh Premier League.

The move, recommended in the FAW Strategic Plan 2007-2012, is a dramatic move and designed to offer the so-called ‘exile’ clubs a route into Europe, something they do not currently have.

The move would see a drastic change to the Welsh League, but provide regular competitive football for reserve and youth players from the three big clubs of Wales.

The move will meet resistance from many quarters but is something under serious consideration by the FAW.
