Cardiff City striker Steve Thompson has been handed the toughest punishment available by his club for comments made to the Scottish media concerning his relationship with manager Dave Jones.

n a rich vein of form at the time, Thompson revealed he felt each goal he scored was proving Dave Jones wrong. He also spoke about being made a scapegoat for the Bluebirds poor form in the latter half of last season, adding that he and his manager rarely spoke.

hairman Peter Ridsdale immediately spoke out to assure fans the comments would not mean Thompson would be ‘frozen out’ at Ninian Park and the matter would be dealt with internally.

Thommo has now been handed a fine amounting to two weeks wages, he remains on the transfer list and has lost his place in the team due to a straight red card picked up against Bristol City.

e has been excellent recently, providing for the team and scoring goals, Robbie Fowler is injured and Jason Byrne out-of-favour so Thommo may be recalled for the New Year’s Day clash against Plymouth Argyle. A hat-trick would surely help mend his relationship with the gaffer.
