Cardiff City goalkeeper Neil Alexander has clarified his position at the club and revealed he WILL be leaving in the summer, despite being desperate to stay.

Contract negotiations with the player broke down after Alexander was unwilling to agree to a wage package based mainly on appearances bonuses. HE maintained his willingness to stay but the club were reluctant to offer a new deal and officially withdrew the contract offer this weekend.

‘I won’t be a Cardiff City player next season.’ Confirmed Alexander.

‘I’ll be very sad to leave. I’ve had six really good years here and enjoyed every minute of it, I’d like to think I’ve contributed a lot to the club and helped them get to where they are today.’

The Scottish International underlined his thanks for the support from Cardiff fans:

‘The fans have been fantastic to me from the first minute I arrived. They’ve helped me to enjoy it as much as I have. It’s been a pleasure to play for the club.’

‘Of course, I want to keep doing my best now for Cardiff until the end of the season.’

Opinions are very much divided amongst Cardiff fans about the future of Alexander, but his form this season has been very good. The genral consensus at present is that Alexander should stay, but Dave Jones and the club disagree.

We can only hope someone of equal or better quality comes in the replace Cardiff’s longest serving player.

Alexander is still focussed on his goal, he will probably lose his place for next Saturday’s game but remains intent on promotion as a parting gift to the fans:

‘When the last day of the season comes, it’s going to be very sad for me. All I can hope is that last game is one that gets Cardiff into the Premiership.’

‘That would be a great thing to leave behind after my time here.’
