Cardiff City ended their worst run in 7 years with a gutsy performance and 2-1 win against Wolves this weekend.

City took the lead after an excellent finish from out-of-sorts striker Michael Chopra. The Geordie found space on the edge of the box and cheekily lobbed Matt Murray to give City thr lead.

It’s been goals that Cardiff have lacked recently and getting the first goal gave them increased confidence, Chopra in particular looking lively and alert.

Wolves pegged us back second half after the withdrawal of Darren Purse through injury but Johnson and Loovens sttod firm under pressure. Wolves did get their goal, and you had to say it was coming. What was more pleasing however is that after weathering a 10 minute spell, City came back and looked the better team.

They got the bit of luck they’ve been missing recently as Michael Chopra’s energy and persistence paid off and Jason Byrne netted a memorable goal. The importance of the victory should not be underestimated in adverse circumstances.

The winless streak is over, and against a good side. Craig Davies and Michael Kightly looked particularly impressive for Wolves but a re-jigged City back-line coped fairly well. On another day, the score would have been vastly different but City got the bit of luck and can now look forward to the next game with no fear or pressure on them.

We’re back in the play-off places now and will look to build on the result against Leicester on Saturday this time with fans to cheer them on.
