After an up-and-down season, Cardiff City finished comfortably mid-table. A scintillating start was followed by a dismal end and the same players looked half as effective as previously.

VitalCardiff brings you an end of season review of each player. If you disagree then feel free to leave a comment at the foot of this article or e-mail Vital Bluebirds with an alternative review!!

The reviews will be published every weekday between 10-11am:

19 – RICCARDO SCIMECA

Riccy Scimeca started the season in fine form. A box-to-box midfielder, he struck up an immediate understanding with Stephen McPhail Scimeca became the enforcer, and broke up countless opposition attacks. He chose to limit his passing game to a shorter distance but at a fast tempo – this proved very effective.

In addition to his normal roles, Scimeca started off in good goalscoring form and scored in three consecutive appearances in September. His aerial presence was important for Cardiff but another low drive against Burnley from 20 yards won the game in a tough contest for City and made it 5 in 17 for the former West Brom player.

Things quickly went downhill for the team and Scimeca missed the whole of February through injury, a persistent hamstring injury then saw him miss the end of season run-in. He ended the season with 5 goals after not scoring since November.

Scimeca was missed from the side, and the Bluebirds looked a more resilient outfit with him present. Simon Walton arrived as cover but failed to impress after a series of lacklustre performances and red cards. AS well as his strong defensive play and passing qualities, Scimeca added some much needed experience and determination to the side and became captain in Darren Purse`s absence.

A solid season that ended in frustration and disappointment for Riccy. He is still a formidable ooponent and has great experience to add to the dressing room. True competition for places should help him re-find top form again next season.
