Cardiff speculation on Vine-growing

Cardiff City last week approached Luton Town regarding a possible transfer of Hatters top scorer Rowan Vine.

The 24 year old striker has impressed this season and has 12 Championship goals to his name following a decent start last season after a £250k move from Portsmouth.

Cardiff City’s bid, thought to be around £400k, was rejected outright by the Hatter’s board after falling way short of their valuation for the player. Cardiff are now preparing an improved bid after missing out on Will Hoskins (now at Watford) and cooling interest in Geoff Horsfield.

Luton Town are becoming resigned to losing the striker but are under no financial pressure to sell. Cardiff City and Norwich City were the most likely bidders with Vine preferring Cardiff due to their higher league position and promotion prospects.

Reports claiming Vine had been sold to Sunderland were slammed by the Hatters insisting the Black Cat’s had no contact regarding the player but strong interest over the weekend from Tony Mowbray and West Bromich Albion could be very tempting for the player.
