Cardiff City boss Dave Jones is considering exdending the loan deal for Sheffield United’s Alan Wright.

The 35 year old defender has been on-loan at Cardiff following the shoulder injury to Kerrea Gilbert and the refusal of Watford to extend the loan deal of previous loanee James Chambers. Kevin McNaughton missed the last Cardiff game, a nil-nil draw with Luton, through injury and Wright stepped in at left-back.

The diminutive fullback has appeared solid when called upon by City and has added some much needed depth to the squad with 17 year old right back Chris Gunter the only other option. Gunter has looked extremely promising in his games so far, but Jones is reluctant to put too much pressure on the teenager and will not risk playing him too often too soon.

Although Wright is probably in his last season, he has done a job for Cardiff City. Sheffield United are trying to offload the player to make room for new additions so may be reluctant to extend the loan. Manager Dave Jones has not made any firm decision on the player but will hope to do so soon in order to finalise his plans for the transfer window:

‘It (the Luton game) was Alan’s last game for Cardiff but I’ll sit down with him and see where we go from there.’ Jones said.
