Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has advised several of his squad to find new clubs asap ahead of a large-scale summer clear-out at Ninian Park over the summer.

Jeff Whitley and Chris Barker are the big names to leave, Barker has been on loan all season at Colchester while Jeff Whitley went AWOL from the club and is now with Wrexham after an unsuccessful loan spell with Stoke City. Both players have been important first team players at Championship level for Cardiff but Dave Jones is keen to change the squad and made it clear to both they are surplus to requirements at Ninian Park.

The ineffectual Kevin Campbell is also to be released although his impact has been more behind the scenes for Cardiff, with several players including strike rival Steve Thomspon praising Campbell’s off-the-field advice and contribution.

Other fringe strikers Luigi Glombard and Andrea Feretti are also set to leave as well as former Arsenal trainee Mark Howard. The goalkeeper has been on loan at Swansea but has blundered in every City appearance and will be allowed to leave for nothing.

Of the players released, only Chris Barker cost Cardiff a fee (£600k from Barnsley) and he was inherited from the pre-Dave Jones era.
