Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ledley got a rare International goal in Russia but Wales ultimately fell short and went down by 2 goals to 1 to their more illustrious hosts.
Despite being under early pressure it looked good for Wales after they won a penalty, but Gareth Bale’s effort was weak and saved by Akinfeev.
Shortly afterwards, Bale was given a lesson by his new team-mate Roman Pavlyuchenko, the Spurs man blasting home a penalty to give Russia the lead.
Ledley scored a great equaliser after superb work by Bale, his skill and wicked cross allowing the Cardiff City man to side-foot home.
However, it was not to be and Russia grabbed a late winner through Pavel Pogrebnyak.
