Cardiff City progressed to the third round of the Carling Cup last night with a 2-1 victory over Roberto Di Matteo’s MK Dons. However, the win came at a cost for the Bluebirds with three injuries causing selection headaches for Dave Jones.

Teenage makeshift defender Darcy Blake and returning full-back Tony Capaldi were both casualties forcing a defensive re-shuffle but the most worrying sight for fans was a painful looking injury to midfielder Riccy Scimeca.

Scimeca was subject to a horrible slide-lunge on the stroke of half-time. The resulting penalty was tucked away by McCormack but Scimeca was clearly in pain and stretchered off.

The second half saw Peter Whittingham scored a delightful free-kick before a disappointing consolation was scored by O’Hanlon from another set-piece as we still struggle to keep a clean sheet.

On-loan Fulham striker Eddie Johnson made his debut for the Bluebirds.
