Cardiff City have been rewarded for the midweek win over Burnley with a Carling Cup quarter-final tie against Blackburn Rovers. The Lancashire club are struggling in the Premiership and with City getting the home draw, we have a real shot.

The draw was made Saturday lunchtime, and with only us and fellow Championship outfit Crystal Palace from outside the Premiership. Palace pulled a plumb tie away at Manchester United. The games will be played in the week beginning 28th November.

The current run is Cardiff City’s best since 1965/66 season so reaching the last 8 of the competition is a fantastic achievement for Mackay’s new look squad.

The Carling Cup has long been considered a distraction for the Bluebirds, and the majority of the Premiership and Championship teams. However, winning breeds confidence and we have utilised the competition well under Malky Mackay with Tuesday providing a timely opportunity for Joe Mason to show he can operate alone up front.

Despite the Carling Cup opportunity, Sunday’s Championship clash with Leeds United must be the primary focus for the Bluebirds.
