Cardiff City are desperate for a return to winning ways over Barnsley on Sunday after two desperately disappointing defeats in which we failed to score.

Performances have undoubtedly been below par, but there has also been an element of misfortune after both games saw perfectly good goals ruled out for offside, a plethora of excellent saves by Marton Fulop of Ipswich and an uncharacteristic penalty miss by Peter Whittingham.

As such, Cardiff City deserve and prbably need a break to go our way. We’ve enjoyed good spells, but failed to take chances but you feel a goal may just give the boost necessary to step up a gear. Bullard’s deflected free-kick, and Palace’s bizarre winner are just examples of things going right for your team.

City wont care how it goes in, but several players would benefit greatly from a goal of any sort. Bothroyd looks jaded, Chopra has worked hard but is frustrated by lack of chances, Bellamy is always searching for a goal while Chris Burke hasn’t hit the net in an age and looks short on confidence. Peter Whittingham too would love to get on the scoresheet soon to banish memories of his mishit penalty miss.

If the Bluebirds do get an early goal against Barnsley, it could spark a return to form, goals and the confidence we can show at our best. The Tykes look certain to avoid relegation, but will not be able to mount a serious play-off challenge so while they will play without the constraints of pressure, Cardiff City should have an extra gear.

We’ll take a win, any kind of win but a resounding 3 or 4 nil win would be exceptionally welcome, restore belief and set us up for the promotion push. An early goal would be crucial.
