Cardiff City’s promising young right-back Adam Matthews has won a call-up to the Wales U21s squad to face italy U21s with the Welsh youngsters looking to secure qualification for the U21 Championship.

Matthews has featured for the Bluebirds this season, and done well whilst covering for the injured Darcy Blake at right back. Blake, who is 21, was previously a regular started for Brian Flynn’s youngsters but has now won a call-up to the senior squad.

Matthews is joined in the squad by former team-mate Aaron Morris, released over the summer by Cardiff City and now playing for Aldershot Town.

Cardiff City have some talented full-backs at the club after the acquisition of former Celtic man Lee Naylor at left-back. Kevin McNaughton remains a superb choice on either flank leaving Darcy Blake and Adam Matthews to fight for their place in the squad. The likes of Paul Quinn and new recruit Martin John look set to struggle for first team opportunities.
