Cardiff City’s experienced midfielder Siccy Scimeca is set to return to training next week after missing most of pre-season with a troublesome groin injury.
Scimeca sat out the end of last season with the problem, and was forced to pull out of the pre-season games. He is now looking to return to full fitness and regain his place in the Bluebirds midifeld.
We missed Riccy’s presence when absent last season, as well as being a ball winner – Scimeca was a dominant and physical force and is also a threat in the air.
Gavin Rae, signed from Rangers in the summer, has filled the void left by Scimeca;s absence. Although similar in style, he does not have the presence of Scimeca and looks less of a foil for McPhail.
Although Scimeca’s return is great news for the team, and for competition, it will mean that promising youngsters Aaron Ramsey and Darcy Blake are pushed further down the pecking order for central midfield berths and Dave Jones may look into a loan move for them to gain valuable first team experience.
