After an up-and-down season, Cardiff City finished comfortably mid-table. A scintillating start was followed by a dismal end and the same players looked half as effective as previously.

13 – MARK HOWARD
Mark Howard arrived from Arsenal with a good reputation and was to challenge Neil Alexander for the Number 1 jersey and in a remarkable twist, the club re-appointed the released Martyn Margetson as goalkeeping coach and registered his as the third playing goalkeeper.
Howard, only 20, began as the substitute and got his first taste of first team action in the League Cup defeat by Barney back in August. The result was a shock and a disappointment for the Championship side. Unfortunately for Howard, the young keeper made a horrific error to gift Tresor Kandol the first after a hopeless clearance and was guilty of ball-watching as the same player headed Barnet`s second.
It was not a good omen for Howard, and he was soon dropped from the matchday 16 with Dave Jones taking the unusual option of forfitting a recognised goalkeeper on the bench to go with 5 outfield players.
Howard moved West for an un-successful spell with local rivals Swansea City as emergency cover for Willy Gueret but returned to the Bluebirds after a month.
Cardiff City signed Daid Forde to challenge Alexander and Howard was released at the end of the season after one unhappy season as a Cardiff City player.
