Cardiff City have received a firm bid from Birmingham City for defender Roger Johnson with the Blues also thought to be tracking the Bluebirds’ Ross McCormack.

The offer came two weeks ago according to a source quoted in the Western Mail. However, the £3.5m offered by newly promoted Birmingham City was swiftly dismissed as inadequate by Peter Ridsdale.

Clubs know that players like Roger Johnson and Joe Ledley want to play in ther Premiership and that we must sell before spending. As such, many will try their luck and attempt to get our players on the cheap. It’s re-assuring to see that we aren’t, as yet, willing to be bullyed.

£3.5m is a hefty offer for a player who cost less than £300k. Not so long ago we would have bitten their hands off, or at the very least told them to add a small amount and we’d accept. Johnson is a leading candidate for the Bluebirds captaincy if he remains at Cardiff City next season.
