Cardiff City have not played a league match now for what seems like an eternity, at least following Monday’s close-run game – we can now concentrate on the league! Whilst we have been resting up, our Championship rivals have been playing regularly meaning we have slipped from 4th in the table.

However, whilst we will now face a tiring schedule packed full of matches in close succession – we have far less ground to catch-up than had been feared. In fact, we have slipped just one place in the table, and have FOUR games in hand on Preston North End above us. Just two points separate the teams.

Last night saw a number of Championship sides in action, and the results went the way of the Bluebirds with both Swansea City and Burnley missing their chance to leap into the playoff zone.

Burnley need a last minute Chris Eagles equaliser against Coventry City while in-form Doncaster Rovers beat the previosuly in-form Bristol City keeping the Wurzels a point below us and having played 4 games more.

By far and away the best result for us last night was Watford’s 2-0 win over Swansea City. The Swans had been in ominous form and climbing the Championship table apace but lowly Watford ended their 16 match unbeaten run and the Jacks remain 3 points behind us in 9th place.

Much still remains in our hands, and if we maintain our own good league form – automatic promotion is still on. It will be much more satisfying to see our own results once again having been forced to watch the fortunes of others for a few weeks now. Roll on Wolves on Sunday….
