Cardiff City Need A ‘Miracle’

Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale says it would take a miracle for Cardiff City to achieve promotion this season and warned the fans not to expect any kind of transfer kitty until the Bluebirds have moved to their new stadium after next season.

Ridsdale told the SW Echo:

“In an ideal world I`d love to get into the play-offs and get promoted this term.”

“But if we get anywhere near the play-offs it would be a miracle.”

“Not because we are not good enough, but because of the fact that we have a small squad and don`t have the spare cash to bring in new faces.”

The lack of personnel is a worry for Cardiff City and with Scimeca, Feeney, Sinclair and Robbie Fowler all suffering from long term injuries this season, the squad has been stretched.

However, Fowler aside – it is more or less the same Cardiff City side taking the field each week as Dave Jones’ starting XI. Aaron Ramsey has played more regularly recently, but we look even better for the 17 year olds inclusion.

Whether we should be able to get promoted is irrelevant, with over half the season gone – we are in a decent position and four of perhaps 10 or 12 teams must get the play-off positions. Ridsdale’s comments are presumably intended to lower expectation and take some pressure off a stretched squad. Hopwever, the team has proved it can match any side in the division, just one (quality) loan acquisition up-front could make a huge difference and would not impact heavily on the club’s finances.

I don’t believe it would be a miracle. Simply a talented squad taking a chance offered to them. It’s certainly possible and whilst it would be a scary thought taking on the Premiership with this squad – lets give it a go!
