Cardiff City’s Scottish International Gavin Rae will miss the rest of the season after requiring surgery to treat an ankle tendon injury.

The former Rangers man has been an integral part of the Bluebirds midfield this year, despite struggling for form. Injuries to key players have seen him play regularly, even with his hand in plaster at times. However, it is clear that Dave Jones sees him as the third choice central midfielder and Rae was relegated to the bench on Monday to allow the return of Joe Ledley after hip surgery.

The return of key players such as Ledley, coupled with the returns of short term absentess Chris Burke and Peter Whittingham means that Rae’s absence should not prove too costly.

Another huge bonus has been the emergence of youngster Darcy Blake who has impressed both in central defence and midfield at the height of our injury problems. He, Aaron Wildig and Solomon Taiwo will provide the cover for McPhail and Ledley as we look to confirm our place in the play-offs and compete for a place in the Premiership.
