Cardiff City are yet again looking at a possible deal to bring Welsh defender James Collins back to his former club from West Ham United.

Collins left along with Danny Gabbidon as our debts soared. We got £3.5m for the pair with many feeling Gabbidon alone was worth that amount but Collins was the real target for the Hammers and he soon emerged from Gabbidon’s shadow into a rock solid and strong defender.

Several Bluebirds moves for Collins have been rebuffed, both permanent and on-loan deals but Ginge has struggled with injuries lately and with Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola impressing in East London and looking to re-build, Collins could be allowed to exit.

Cardiff City are difinitely in the market for another centre-back and if Collins were to join Johnson and Gyepes – there would surely be no stronger pool of centre-backs in the division. Whether Collins would go for a return is not known, he has been non-commital in the past but the chance of first team football would be a major factor at the age of 25 and with the Wales captaincy up for grabs.
