Cardiff City In Bold Ticketing Drive

Cardiff City FC have surprised many fans this week with the news of a proposed 5 year ticket price freeze – effective regardless of our possible promotion to the Premiership.

Whilst many clubs, us included use temporary ticket freezes to encourage fans to sign up for the next year – this appears an unprecedented move and uncharacteristic of the Bluebirds – who often lag behind when it comes to innovative ticketing/merchandising strategies.

Effectively, the freeze would mean that we’d pay the same price to see Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal at the CCS as we currently do to see Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers and Scunthorpe United. Taking nothing away from those clubs, it is a big step up.

Add to that the fact that we are running at around 20k of a 25k capacity (thats 80%), you’d expect a big increase if we were successful week after week i.e. promotion form, and even more so with the visits of glamorous teams, influx of Premiership quality players and the increased media coverage in South Wales associated with these things.

That would surely see us sold out for the vast majority of games, and thus losing out on potential revenue by still charging Championship prices. It is however, an excellent deal for the loyal fans who have watched Cardiff City build from the basement divisions, through the Hammam era to the brink of financial ruin, and the consolidation since.
