Cardiff City fulfilled two important tasks yesterday as a number of our fringe players got a decent run-out and at the same time helped a fellow Welsh club, currently facing a financial mess. A number of first-teamers including Comminges, Purse, Whittingham and McPhail started against Merthyr Tydfil and each contributed in the first half before making way for a number of youngsters. Czech striker Dan Kolar and Scottish defender Steven Smith are currently on trial with the Bluebirds and both played in the game.

City won the game 3-0 thanks to goals from Whittingham, Kolar and a sweet strike from Chris Burke. Followig that, and the introduction of our lesser know players the tempo dropped and the game ended 3-0. It was good to see the club helping out a fellow team and its a great pity the mess The Martyrs find themselves in. It was also important for our reserve players to get in some practice as we no longer play in a league and rely instead on pre-arranged friendlies such as this one.
