Cardiff City Forced To Miss Out, But Rivals Falter

Cardiff City were again forced to sit through a full quota of Championship fixtures without having the chance to add to our own points tally. With such a congested table, and many teams charging for the play-offs – it was feared our postponement of the game against Charlton could see us caught up by others and put under pressure for our games in hand.

However, Saturday turned out to be a useful day for the Bluebirds with our rivals failing to take advantage.Preston North End played out a 0-0 draw with Reading of real note to Cardiff fans hoping to reach the automatic promotion positions. Even better for the Bluebirds was the result from Sheffield where Wednesday beat United to keep the Blades on level points with the Bluebirds but having played 3 games more. Wolverhampton Wanderers were made to pay for a late penalty miss and were beaten by Coventry to keep the top of the table very tight indeed as Burnley and Birmingham City also fought out a draw.

Predictably in this division, it can`t all go your way and with so many teams in the mix, some were bound to take advantage. QPR couldn`t as they only drew but Bristol City and Swansea City (our two biggest rivals!) both won their fixtures and both look in good shape at this crucial stage of the season.

We still don`t have a league game scheduled until22nd February, at which point we could have FIVE games in hand on Preston North End. In between we face Arsenal in the cup, at least the break gives the likes of McNaughton, Ledley, Gyepes, Johnson etc to recover from knocks.
