Cardiff City travel to the North of Elgland to face Scunthorpe United, a tidy Championship outfit who are looking to consolidate their position and avoid relegation. So far, the Iron are looking in reasonable shape after collecting 20 points from 16 games, putting them in a comfortable 16th place – though a couple of defeats could easily see them slip.

However, it is not their home form that is helping Scunthorpe, who actually have the worst record in front of their own fans in the Championship. In fact, only Hereford United in League 2 have a worse home record across the entire football League.

The Iron have secured only 5 points at Glanford Park, from 8 matches – thats only a quarter of their points tally. An emphatic 3-0 win over Crystal Palace (we only managed a 0-0 draw) suggests they can play at home, while draws against Ipswich and Barnsley are creditable. However, the fact remains they are in terrible form – losing the last three consecutive home games, and shipping 9 goals in the process.

That is a statistic that will see the likes of Bothroyd, Bellamy, Chopra, Burke etc eagerly anticipating the chance to end 2 game run without a win. We can struggle against defensive minded teams, but we can be devastating on the break away from home – as Leeds United can atest.

Cardiff City cannot afford to be compacent. We have picked up an impressive 16 points from games on the road this campaign, and with Scunthorpe struggling – this must be targetted as a game we need to win. That will not be easy, and Scunthrope will be up for this – they certainly have nothing to lose.
