Cardiff City Conundrum: Whitts or Rambo?!?

The Cardiff City team for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Portsmouth is already close to finalised. I’d say with some conviction that Dave Jones has already decided on 10 of his starting 11, and possibly even the last position aswell.

The defense picks itself: Enckelman, Capaldi, McNaughton, Johnson and Loovens.

In attack, we look almost certain to lead with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink with Paul Parry alongside him.

In midfield is where the one contentious selection choice is to be made. Joe Ledley, Stephen McPhail and Gavin Rae are sure to be included but the position on the right wing is less clear.

Aaron Ramsey is an in-form player with huge skill and attacking threat. He could be a key player on the spacious Wembley pitch and would relish the chance to appear for his hometown club in the Final.

Opposed to that is the inclusion of Peter Whittingham. Technically the most gifted at the club, he is somewhat of an FA Cup specialist with goals against Chasetown, Wolves and Middlesbrough. He also has Premiership experience with Aston Villa and would surely be up for this game?

Another option would be Trevor Sinclair and his added experience on the flank, however he is more likely to settle for a substitutes place, if even that.

This is one difficult decision for Dave Jones, if recent media reports are true then this would be Ramsey’s last appearance for Cardiff City and that, along with his age and lack of experience, would probably push Jones towards naming Whittingham on the right. To be sure, we’ll just have to wait….
