The Cardiff City team for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Portsmouth is already close to finalised. I’d say with some conviction that Dave Jones has already decided on 10 of his starting 11, and possibly even the last position aswell.

The defense picks itself: Enckelman, Capaldi, McNaughton, Johnson and Loovens.

In attack, we look almost certain to lead with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink with Paul Parry alongside him.

In midfield is where the one contentious selection choice is to be made. Joe Ledley, Stephen McPhail and Gavin Rae are sure to be included but the position on the right wing is less clear.

Aaron Ramsey is an in-form player with huge skill and attacking threat. He could be a key player on the spacious Wembley pitch and would relish the chance to appear for his hometown club in the Final.

Opposed to that is the inclusion of Peter Whittingham. Technically the most gifted at the club, he is somewhat of an FA Cup specialist with goals against Chasetown, Wolves and Middlesbrough. He also has Premiership experience with Aston Villa and would surely be up for this game?

Another option would be Trevor Sinclair and his added experience on the flank, however he is more likely to settle for a substitutes place, if even that.

This is one difficult decision for Dave Jones, if recent media reports are true then this would be Ramsey’s last appearance for Cardiff City and that, along with his age and lack of experience, would probably push Jones towards naming Whittingham on the right. To be sure, we’ll just have to wait….

same defence, personal i would put sinclair and parry ufront, ledley left midfield, whitts right midfield, mcphail and rambo center mid,

I dont think Parry and Sinclair would work in attack, need someone to hold the ball up and link with the midfielders…

No way to your midfield bluebird04 – too lightweight by far. Especially if Pompey play their three giants in midfield we need Rae to do the donkey work, McPhail could drop for Ramsey but I cant see DJ doing that

Aderyn, we’ve only got one giant, Diop, Diarra and Muntari are both little blokes! Hope it’s a good game with friendly banter amongst the fans.

I wouldn’t mess with either of them though, got more bite than a team of McPhails!

  • pompey4me says:

Yep, Munners is a right hard nut, and Diarra is a maestro, you just can’t get the ball off him!

aderyn las – the team doesnt need to be a heavyweight, we need to have a team of quick, strong, passing and creative but it needs to balanced out, pompey have to much of strength not enough pace, if we play with the wide men with pace, and have the ramsey and mcphail in the middle, they can pick a pass from anywhere, so we can slot through the porstmouth defence and ok, dystan and campbell are strong, but will they have the pace to keep up with our young lads
