Cardiff City kept a clean sheet and saw off the determined challenge from Portuguese side Fatima in blazing heat yesterday.

Most of the first team got a decent run out, and City went on the win by a single headed goal by triallist Klimpl – hoping to earn himself a permeanent contract with the Bluebirds. He rose imperiously to head home Whittingham’s late corner.

Both sides had hit the woodwork, with Bothroyd and McCormack going very close for Cardiff City. The pace was understandably well short of Championship level but there were promising signs once again.
