Cardiff City were fortunate to collect all three points after beating a Nottingham Forest side who belied their lowly league position with a gutsy and confident performance.

However, it was Cardiff City who got the win after McPhail was tripped in the area 10 minutes into the second half – Ross McCormack blasting the penalty straight down the middle.

Jay Bothroyd had a glorious chance in the first half, but shot wide while Tom Heaton had to be alert on several occasion to save from Garner and later substitute Earnshaw who went through on goal only to see on-loan Manchester United keeper Heaton palm his effort over the bar.

Despite plenty of Forest pressure, Cardiff remained calm and, despite the loss of Mark Kennedy and Darren Purse to injury – the re-shuffled defence held firm and City, who really struggled to find any rhythm at all, picked up another win.
