It’s rare that Vital Cardif City takes the time to analyse a referee’s performance, however a special case has been made for Mr Beeby who referee’d Cardiff City’s 1-2 defeat to Norwich City on Saturday.

It was a very strange performance by the official, there were no controversial sendings off, nor penalties – it wasn’t that kind of game. However, Mr Beeby seemed to me, to be guessing many of his decisions. So often, a free-kick one way was followed moments later by one the other way.

Many obvious fouls were ignored, one in particular when McNaughton was bundled over from behind – he was going forward, in control and the defender crashed into him from the back, with no hope of getting the ball.

Several inocous challenges were penalised, slowing the game down and making little sense to me, or the fans around me in Ninian Park.

Make no mistake, the referee had little bearing on the result of the game. It was a drab affair and won by a late wonderstrike, however I did find the performance weird, and a little worrying.

Of course, we’ve had a number of poor officials watching over us, Mr Beeby is by no means the worst – but one of the most perplexing.
