Cardiff City ‘bottled it’

Cardiff City look to have been ruled out of the play-off shake-up after three successive defeats.

If the loss to Sunderland was a little unfortunate, the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday was plain poor and reflected badly on the team.

Most of the players looked completely bereft of confidence but youngster Joe Ledley was one that grew in confidence as the game progressed. He looked more able to take his man on, was quicker and hot the post after a surging run. However he quickly faded when the Owls took the lead.

As so often is the case with this current Bluebirds team, no-one stepped up and took responsibility. They got the lucky break they deserved on the stroke of half time, a goal from nothing and it was a fantastic time to score.

The second half should have been entirely different, with Cardiff attacking positively. It started that way, but Sheffield didnt care – it was as if they knew it wouldnt last. Their second was a killer and knocked all the fight out of Cardiff City.

It was probably that sucker punch, in a game Cardiff should have won, that led to the under-par and dejected performance against Burnley. Players were jaded and lacked belief.

Cardiff are now well short of the players, and its too big an ask with just 4 games left. Add to that their woeful form and its all but over for this year. In truth, it should have been over some time ago but for the failings of West Brom, Southampton, Wolves and Preston who have also felt the pressure and dropped away.

There’s always next year…..
