Cardiff City have turned to a loan target man to solve their lack of firepower up-front ahead of next weeks trip to QPR.

The Bluebirds have identified Newcastle United’s tall forward Andy Carroll as a suitable loan player and are trying to bring the 6ft 3in marksman to Ninian Park.

The highly rated teenager has played for the Newcastle first team but will find opportunities limited this season at St James’ Park after the capture of Mark Viduka. The Magpies are keen for Carroll to gain first-team experience and are happy to allow him a loan deal.

Cardiff desperately need someone to come in after the forward line failed against Stoke City and Robbie Fowler is still a week away from fitness.
