Cardiff & Celtic Draw As CCS Is Born

Cardiff City went through a good work-out against an organised Celtic side



City had a good penalty appeal turned down in an even opening with both sides looking relatively comfortable. There were times when the Bluebirds defence looked shaky but their understanding will grow.


Unfortunately McNaughton was forced off with a painful looking injury after a meaty challenge – he was replaced by Capaldi. After the half hour, City forced three good chances including a well struck Ledley effort that Boruc did well to save, Chopra put the ball in the net but a fould had been awarded – the chances were created after Chops made a fool of former team-mate Loovens.


Marc-Antoine Fortune had a good chance but blaxed well wide from 18 yards, McCormack doing exactly the same from the same blade of grass in the second half.


McCormcak hit the wall from a well-placed free-kick before Gavin Rae had an excellent chance before former Bluebird Willo Flood made an appearance for Celtic. The Bhoys failed to create many clear cut chances though Chris Killen won a couple of headers and Samaras headed straight at Marshall from 10 yards out. Burke seeing a low drive palmed away by substitute Zaluska for City.


Both sides did well to keep the tempo up despite the friendly status. Bothroyd, Gerrard, Loovens and Killen seemed unaware it was a friendly but thats ok – good to see the boys taking the game seriously.


No goals but a useful workout, unfortunately McNaughton and McPhail both went off in some pain and may need to sit out some of the pre-season. A decent match, decent opposition and a beautiful new surrounding for Cardiff City Football Club.
