Cardiff City captain and centre-back Darren Purse has reserved special praise for his defensive partner Glenn Loovens and his possible sucessor.

Loovens played for Cardiff last season whilst on-loan from Feyenoord and Dave Jones acted swiftly in the summer to make the move permanent for a bargain £250k. The player is a solid defender, with good aerial prowess and neat footwork.

Whereas Purse used to be the first name on the teamsheet, Loovens will now be selected ahead of the captain, while fellow centre-back Roger Johnson has made miraculous progress in his first season at Cardiff. Now Purse has spoken of his admiration for Dutch centre-back Loovens and reveals his confidence that Loovens will play at the highest level:

‘I’m convinced Loovens has a bright time ahead of him.’

‘He is destined to play in the Premiership and I do believe he will one day be a full Dutch international.’

‘Glenn is right up there with Arsenal’s Philippe Senderos and West Ham’s £6m Matthew Upson. Truthfully, he is probably better than both of them.’

A ringing endorsement from a hugely experienced and professional player who clearly expects big things from Loovens, hopefully we will get to see them for Cardiff City.
