Cardiff City boss Dave Jones has conceded defeat in his team’s quest for automatic promotion and intends to rally his troops for a final assault on the play-offs.

Cardiff have just 7 games to go, and sit just one point below West Bromwich Albion who occupy the final play-off spot, and 3 points behind Wolves in 5th.

Manager Dave Jones admitted play-offs were now the target after City succumbed to Derby County, who effectively sealed at least a play-off spot with the win.

‘We needed to win. We’re now 10 points behind Derby and that’s an awful lot to make up.’

‘It’s between four teams up there, Derby, Birmingham, Sunderland and West Brom. We’re fighting for a play-off spot.’

‘We’ve got Sunderland next and we’ve got to take maximum points. We’re not out of things by a long way.’

’10 points is a lot at this stage of the season with so few games left so we’ll probably be fighting for that play-off spot.’
