Dave Jones was obviously delighted after gaining all three points in a bruising encounter against Leeds. Jones was disgusted with the performance of the referee, but felt more than satisfied with the result.

‘I thought we thoroughly deserved the three points,’ He said.

‘We could have made life easier for ourselves if we’d put our chances away, but we’ve had to dig deep and it was a magnificent performance.’

‘They turned (it) into a battle because they’re fighting for their lives, but from Neil (Alexander) to Steve (Thompson) up top we were up for it.’

Leeds United assistant manager Gus Poyet was disappointed but chose to take heart from the spirit shown by his players:

‘We have missed a great chance of getting something from this game but when you are down there at the bottom something always seems to happen.’

‘Crucially they scored on the stroke of half time and after that we were always chasing the game.’
