Cardiff City are currently trying to offload one or two players to reduce the wage bill and allow fresh blood to be brought into our squad. One position in which we have surplus options appears to be the full-back position with Kevin McNaughton, Mark Kennedy, Tony Capaldi, Miguel Comminges and youngsters Darcy Blake & Adam Matthews all hoping for regular first team action.
Last season was a complete washout for left-back Tony Capaldi who suffered a knee injury and though he regained fitness – he never found himself a first choice or even a regular inclusion on the bench. With Motherwell`s Paul Quinn a top transfer target, Capaldi and Comminges are favourites to depart if a suitable buyer can be found.
Capaldi is one of the higher earners on the club after we signed him on a free transfer from Plymouth Argyle who stated at the time that the Bluebirds` offer blew theirs out of the water. The player himself has confirmed he would not be happy to be left out again and is prepared to leave for match-time. He told Birmingham Mail:
“I couldn`t have had a worse season,”
“Me and the gaffer sat down and spoke for about half-an-hour and he assured me that when we came back everyone would have a clean slate.”
“I will be working hard to get my place back but if it doesn`t happen I`d rather go somewhere, even drop a division, for regular football than just be a squad player.”
So far there is no confirmed bid for Capaldi although former boss Ian Holloway is thought to be monitoring his situation and considering bringing the Northern Ireland International to Blackpool.
