Blackburn Vultures Circling Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff City are bracing themselves for serious interest in two major club assets after Blackburn Rovers turned their attention to manager Dave Jones and striker Michael Chopra.

Following the controversial sacking of Sam Allardyce, Rovers need to bring a new manager in and the new Venky owners are keen on instant success. Dave Jones’ name gets touted regularly for other jobs, but reports are rife that he has been included on Blackburn’s shortlist for the position.

The story with Chopra is somewhat different, in that the new owners are keen to bring a player of Indian nationality to increase exposure in the lucrative Asian markets. There are few native Indians capable of playing in the Premiership, but Chopra does have the experience and an Indian father while he has also investigated the possibility of representing India.

Chops has been on the bench of late, and has openly spoken of his ambition and desire to return to the Premiership. He would undoubtedly snap at the chance to move to an established EPL club such as Blackburn Rovers. However, the Bluebirds would also demand a £3.5m fee for the pacy striker.

Personally, I can’t see Blackburn Rovers opting for Dave Jones. He has no experience of managing a team in the top flight except one relegation doomed season. Rovers are looking for EURO qualification. A Chopra move could well be on, but will depend on whether any new manager is willing to blow a significant chunk of their transfer budget on a relatively untried player.
