Cardiff City are bracing themselves for serious interest in two major club assets after Blackburn Rovers turned their attention to manager Dave Jones and striker Michael Chopra.

Following the controversial sacking of Sam Allardyce, Rovers need to bring a new manager in and the new Venky owners are keen on instant success. Dave Jones’ name gets touted regularly for other jobs, but reports are rife that he has been included on Blackburn’s shortlist for the position.

The story with Chopra is somewhat different, in that the new owners are keen to bring a player of Indian nationality to increase exposure in the lucrative Asian markets. There are few native Indians capable of playing in the Premiership, but Chopra does have the experience and an Indian father while he has also investigated the possibility of representing India.

Chops has been on the bench of late, and has openly spoken of his ambition and desire to return to the Premiership. He would undoubtedly snap at the chance to move to an established EPL club such as Blackburn Rovers. However, the Bluebirds would also demand a £3.5m fee for the pacy striker.

Personally, I can’t see Blackburn Rovers opting for Dave Jones. He has no experience of managing a team in the top flight except one relegation doomed season. Rovers are looking for EURO qualification. A Chopra move could well be on, but will depend on whether any new manager is willing to blow a significant chunk of their transfer budget on a relatively untried player.

I think this one might be pure speculation. “He’s Indian therefore Indians want to sign him”. Having said that, speculation can be correct and I wouldn’t put anything past our current overlords. Suffice to say the fans would be furious as Chopra has proved himself to be a Championship player and certainly not good enough for a club aspiring to the Champions League (yes I know it’s ridiculous too).

to be honest no disprespect to Cardiff , but Chopra is a good Championship player and not of premiership quality he has had a few chances in the prem and has ended up back in the championship. Under normal circumstances i would say no chance, however under the chicken owners who have not got a clue i will prob be wrong

I agree Chopra seems a Championship player, but he actually did well on very little gametime at Sunderland. He’s only really played for us, and he’s received very poor service – if playing with the likes of Dunn etc – he could do very well. I have heard very strong information to say Blackburn are definitely exploring the Chopra option
