Former Cardiff City loan player Kerrea Gilbert has joined Southend United on loan until the New Year.
Gilbert was on loan from Arsenal FC to the Bluebirds last season and formed an integral part of our early season success. An attack-minded right full-back, Gilbert had pace and aggression in abundance.
Gilbert was absent from first team games during the middle of the season, with Dave Jones citing ‘personal problem’ as the reason for his absence. Gilbert did return toward the end of the season and put in a few more committed and tenascious performances.
Many Cardiff fans would have liked to see Gilbert return to Cardiff. Hi did have some issues, and was caught out of position on a few occasions but generally performed well for City. Kevin McNaughton and the youngster Chris Gunter will compete for the right back position in the coming season.
