Another Cardiff City Midfielder Out For Season

Cardiff City have confirmed that Solomon Taiwo has joined fellow central midfielder Gavin Rae on the sidelines as he needs an operation on his hip, ruling him out of the final 2 league games and the play-offs.

It’s fair to say Taiwo has been a disappointment this season, and would almost certainly not have been selected anyway with McPhail, Ledley, Wildig, Blake and probably Whittingham all fit and likely to be selected ahead of the former Dagenham and Redbridge man.

Taiwo has barely featured for the first team after moving to the Bluebirds early in the season. That fact makes the £250k fee we paid for him look ridiculous and especially irresponsible given our financial plight and problems meeting the wage bill of late.

Whether Taiwo has a future at the club remains to be seen. Certainly he will need first team action, and after a season without any regular first team football – that looks unlikely to be with us whether in the Premiership or Championship. A loan move seems a likely option, and Taiwo remains a young player with significant potential.

Hoepfully a summer away from the game, a full pre-season and a productive loan spell in a lower league will see Solomon Taiwo come back to the Bluebirds fit, confident and able to fight for a first team place.
